Fascinating Tale Behind The Ganesh Chaturthi Celebration

A Mother’s Sacred Creation:
Long ago, Goddess Parvati was preparing for her holy bath. With great love, she shaped a boy from sacred turmeric paste and divine herbs. She breathed life into him with her motherly affection and asked her little son to guard the entrance while she bathed.

The Unexpected Meeting:
When Lord Shiva returned home, the boy, unaware of who he was, stood firmly at the door. Obeying his mother’s command, he bravely stopped Shiva from entering.

A Moment of Anger:
Lord Shiva, surprised and angered by this resistance, did not know the boy was Parvati’s beloved son. In his fury, he struck him down, separating his head from his body.

Divine Restoration:
When Goddess Parvati learned of this, her heart was filled with grief. To console her and restore the child, Lord Shiva commanded his followers to bring the head of the first living creature they found—a wise elephant.

The Birth of Beloved Ganesha:
Placing the elephant’s head on the boy’s body, Shiva gave him life once again. From that moment, the divine child became Lord Ganesha, the remover of obstacles and the giver of wisdom.

And so, every year, we celebrate this sacred story with joy and devotion during Vinayaka Chavithi, also known as Ganesh Chaturthi, honoring the birth of our beloved Ganesha.

Major Ganesh Visarjan Ritual & Significance

Ganesh Visarjan 2025 marks the heartfelt farewell of Lord Ganesha on Anant Chaturdashi. In 2025, this sacred 10th day will be observed on Saturday, September 6.

The festival concludes with grand processions filled with music, dance, and the soul-stirring chants of “Ganpati Bappa Morya!” Communities come together, carrying beautifully adorned idols through decorated streets before immersing them in rivers, lakes, or the sea.

According to belief, this ritual symbolizes Lord Ganesha’s return to Mount Kailash, where He reunites with Lord Shiva and Goddess Parvati.

Ganesh Visarjan also teaches us a profound lesson about life—the natural cycle of beginnings and endings. Just as seasons change, Ganesha arrives each year to bless us with joy, wisdom, and prosperity, before returning home with a promise to come back the next year.

As devotees lovingly immerse the idol, it is believed that Lord Ganesha carries away all troubles, negativity, and obstacles, leaving behind peace, happiness, and harmony in every home.

Ganesh Chaturthi Puja Vidhi

1. Preparing the Sacred Space
Begin by cleaning your prayer area completely. Decorate it with fresh flowers, colourful rangoli designs, and festive decorations. This transforms your home into a warm and welcoming pandal, ready to honour Lord Ganesha.

2. Setting Up the Divine Altar
Place Lord Ganesha’s idol on a clean altar covered with a red or yellow cloth. This altar becomes the heart of the celebration, where devotion and prayers are offered by the whole family.

3. Beginning the Sacred Ritual

  • Avahana (Welcoming Lord Ganesha):
Light the lamps (Deep Prajwalan) and take a Sankalpa (a vow) to worship Ganpati with sincerity and devotion.
  • Pran Pratishtha (Inviting the Divine Presence):
Through prayers and chants, invite Lord Ganesha to reside in the idol, blessing the home with his presence.
  • Shodashopachara (16 Ritual Offerings):
Offer 16 items to Lord Ganesha as a sign of love and devotion:
    • Wash his feet and give him a bath with milk, curd, ghee, honey, and sugar.
    • Apply fragrant oils and sprinkle sacred Gangajal.
    • Dress the idol in clean clothes and decorate with flowers, garlands, sindoor, chandan, and rice.
    • Offer his favourites such as modaks, betel leaves, coconut, incense, and oil lamps while chanting prayers.

4. Uttar Puja (Concluding the Worship)
End the puja by performing aarti together with your family. Singing bhajans and aarti in unison creates a divine atmosphere and beautiful memories to cherish.
