A fire accident occurred at the Maha Kumbh in Prayagraj when 2-3 gas cylinders exploded at the campsite in Area 19. The fire quickly spread to nearby tents where people were staying, but fortunately, no one was hurt. Firefighters, who were already stationed at the festival for safety, responded swiftly and managed to control the fire. Local officials, police, and firefighters worked together to extinguish the flames, which destroyed at least 18 tents.
Senior police officer Bhanu Bhaskar confirmed that the cylinder blasts caused the fire, but emphasized that everyone is safe. A special rescue team (NDRF) was also deployed to assist in managing the situation. The Prime Minister contacted Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath about the incident, and Deputy Chief Minister Brajesh Pathak assured that the government is closely monitoring the situation, which is now completely under control.
The Samajwadi Party expressed sadness over the incident on X and urged the government to provide immediate assistance. The Maha Kumbh 2025 began on January 13 during the full moon day of Paush Purnima, and over 7.72 crore devotees have participated so far, with 46.95 lakh taking a holy dip on Sunday alone.
