Holi Parties in Sangla
Unlike other cities, Sangla doesn’t host specific Holi parties. Instead, the entire town unites in celebration, enjoying the festival with family, friends, and loved ones.
Holi in Sangla is a blend of culture and traditions, filled with wine, energetic music, sweet distribution, and the reenactment of scenes from the epic Ramayana. Watching these performances feels like experiencing ancient theatre.
The Faguli Festival, celebrated by the people of Kinnaur Valley, also features lighting oil lamps, much like Diwali.

Faguli Festival – 4-Day Holi Celebration in Sangla
Day 1 – Traditional Food & Offerings
A special dish called Totu, made from buttermilk and roasted barley flour, is prepared and distributed as Prasad.
Day 2 – Holika Dahan
As the evening sets in, traditional music fills the valley. Locals carry a Holika doll, travel around the village, and celebrate together. At night, Holika is burned, symbolizing the victory of good over evil.
Day 3 – Cultural Performances & Snow Holi
Villagers gather at Bering Nag Temple to showcase tribal traditions through folk dance and music. Men and women dance in a criss-cross circle, while performers dress as Ramayana characters to reenact battle scenes.
As a gesture of friendship, they welcome guests with a special local wine called Phasur, while women greet visitors with dry colours and snow.
